1967 Hr premier Holden 186 engine rebuild These images were taken over the period of the rebuild. Initially when the car was brought the engine had been painted black and it had a few minor fluid leaks that also needed addressing. It was decided to remove the engine and replace all the gaskets and seals and repaint it back to the more original red engine look that is more common with the 186. After removing the engine from the car it was placed onto an engine stand and striped down to the block and head, As the block still had excellent compression the head gasket was going to stay and no inspection on the pistons and valves were needed. The cam was sent to be checked for any wear and it was found the lobes were quite worn and so was rebuilt and then reinserted with new lifters, the water pump, oil filter and all the gaskets were also replaced. New oil pressure and water temperature senders were put in that match up to the x2 dash cluster that will be installed at the end of this build. After sealing up the block, it was steamed cleaned and scrubbed to remove any traces or grease and rubbed down with prep sol, then sprayed with etch prime undercoat and a couple of coats of the red Any other parts were repainted black to contrast the red block and were then reattached. The intake and exhaust Manifold and carburettor are still original and were given a clean up, and will be replaced with newer and polished pieces as budget allows. Original sticker sets were obtained for the tappet cover, oil filler, alternator, radiator and air cleaner to maintain originality. Click image to enlarge
